an Organ Recital on the 325th Birthday of J.S.Bach "Hommage à
BACH"
Celebrate J.S. Bach’s 325th birthday in style, along with the 200th
anniversary of Robert Schumann’s birth, and the Brisbane launch of Christopher
Wrench’s CD J.S. Bach’s ‘Trio’ Sonatas. In a fitting
tribute to both composers, Bach’s Organ Sonatas No.1, 3 & 6 are
juxtaposed with Schumann’s Six Fugues on B-A-C-H, op.60.

This concert is presented
by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in aprtnership with the Brisbane City
Council. The conductor will be Eivind
Aadland and the Organ Soloist will be Christopher
Wrench. The programme is the Poulenc Organ Concerto and Sibelius Symphony
No. 2. The programme will be followed by Christopher Wrench signing copies
of his Bach CD in the foyer.

Stephen's Concert Series
Peter Krenske has been
appointed as Organist at St Stephen's Cathedral. This is the "First"
in the St Stephen's Cathedral Concert Series. In his first recital as Cathedral
organist Peter Krenske traverses sonic territory previously unheard at St
Stephen's. In fact some of it may not have heard in Cathedrals anywhere! These
"first performances" include an Australian premiere by Paris organist Naji
Hakim, some music from jazz greats, a bit of Bach, and Krenske himself! A
wonderful "user-friendly" program which will surprise and delight all music
lovers.
Pre concert refreshments are available
in the Courtyard from 3.15pm. Car park entrance is off Charlotte St and opens
at 2.45pm.

Pipe Organ Competition with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra
Peter Crane and CSO will
perform Saint Saens Organ Symphony, and a Handel
Organ Concerto. After the 2.00pm concert, an Inaugural Pipe Organ Competition
will be held. Separate divisions for Intermediate (15 years and under) and
Open, to perform two contrasting works including one from the baroque period.

Mozart, Stanford, Brahms and Nixon.

Complete Performance of Major Work by Christopher Willcock
Melbourne organist Robin
Batterham, assistant organist at Scot's Church in Melbourne will perform a
recital including the first complete performance of
a major work by Melbourne based composer Christopher
Willcock. The recital will form part of a series of
cultural events being held as part of the International Mineral Procesing
Congress being held in Brisbane. These events
are a feature of the Congress which is held every three years. The program
will include works by JS Bach, Mozart,
Gardonyi, Batterham and Vierne.
